Club Hostess Model – The Whole Truth About Working Abroad
Who are hostesses?
Those who have ever worked as an administrator will understand me now. A hostess is a person who can solve literally any problem. The hostess is the first to greet a guest. This can be either an ordinary visitor or a regular client, a respected person. It depends on us whether the person will be satisfied. If so, the establishment will earn well, and I will receive excellent tips.
What are the responsibilities of a hostess?
I want to warn you right away that it won't be possible to perform only one duty. What I do at work:
- I meet and see off guests.
- I help choose and find a table, and reseat guests if necessary.
- I solve issues of comfortable placement, for example, I need to turn off the air conditioner or add more light.
- I make sure that the waiter performs his duties correctly – pours water on time, serves menus, replenishes drinks, gives out snacks and clears dishes from the table, etc.
- I supervise the provision of additional services, for example, the work of a hookah man or dancers.
- I fulfill personal requests from guests: call a taxi, urgently bring water, ask someone to come over, quickly solve some problem.
You can also contact me if you are not satisfied with something. In general, I must make sure that the client is completely satisfied with the environment, the establishment and me.
Is it easy to get a job as a hostess in a night club, what are the requirements?
This is a popular vacancy, so there is competition. An agency was looking for a job for me, so I didn't have to monitor websites. My main requirements were a good salary, a guarantee of safety, benefits in the form of bonuses/discounts, help with finding housing (since at first I lived with a friend, but like everyone else, I wanted my own space). In turn, I offered 100% dedication to the work, good knowledge of spoken English, and 3 years of experience as an administrator. I wanted and was ready to work a lot, since I needed to distract myself from my thoughts after the breakup.
Was it difficult at first, how did the adaptation go?
The job of a hostess is to always keep your finger on the pulse. You need to be prepared to fuss almost the entire evening. This is not the kind of job where you can just relax (I sometimes envied the girls from the consumption because of this). The first week I got used to the schedule. At first, I took almost all the shifts, because I had to do everything to suffer. After that, I realized that this was not possible and decided to choose shifts so that I could see the city, get a tan, and learn more about the culture of the UAE. Hostessing is a job that requires dedication. I was very surprised when on the very first evening I personally received a $300 tip. It was only a tip. And all because I helped a girl remove a stain from her dress (using the good old method – salt).
What are the strangest requests/situations you've had?
When working as a hostess in a club, you need to be prepared for the fact that you may be asked to almost move a person who is in the way (if this concerns the VIP zone). Once I had to urgently look for headache pills. It's good that the establishment has a responsive administrator who ran to the pharmacy and bought everything according to the prescription). Once I had to cover a girl who was hiding under the table so that her ex wouldn't see her.
Have there been any unpleasant situations?
It depends on what you consider unpleasant situations. Men got to know me and were persistent, asked for my phone number, offered to go with them. Well, this is a standard story if you are an attractive and sociable girl. Sometimes it was really difficult to get rid of such offers. Since I work in the service industry, I did not want to be rude to the client. I simply contacted security and the issue resolved itself.
Have you ever been scared?
Scary – no, exciting – yes. When I got a job as a hostess at the club , I understood that the issue of my safety would definitely be raised with the employer. The manager also repeatedly drew attention to the fact that this would be discussed. In the end, we agreed on the following:
- I am being watched by security all evening and I can contact the security guard at any time if I am not happy with something or it seems suspicious.
- I am not allowed to accept treats in the form of cocktails, food. I can only take tips.
- At work, I am prohibited from consuming alcoholic beverages, drugs, or spending time with a visitor without fulfilling my assigned duties.
The work of a hostess also requires me to be attentive and control the situation. In fact, I have to be responsible for all the moments that the client may not like.
For whom this kind of work is definitely suitable, and for whom it is not
Several girls have already come to this niche on my recommendation. Initially, I always have to explain who hostesses are. Imagine that you are a personal assistant who runs around on business all day. It's the same here, only everything happens within the framework of one club. What qualities do you need to have to cope with the work and withstand the load, for example, during some event:
- Communication skills.
- Stress resistance.
- Attentiveness.
- Politeness.
- Concentration.
- Responsibility.
Who definitely wouldn't suit such a job? First of all, those who can't stand constant communication with people and extraneous noise. The club is always loud. If such an atmosphere and environment are not for you, then don't test your nerves. The girls who either worked in a similar position or like to spend time in clubs adapt to this position the fastest. In this case, it really brings not only income, but also pleasure.
What are the pros and cons of working as a hostess?
If we take the ratio of advantages and disadvantages, then the former certainly prevail. The main ones are:
- Good income.
- There is a lot of communication, so you have time to make a large number of pleasant and useful acquaintances.
- The opportunity to become part of the party world, attend performances of artists and popular DJs.
- A fun time. No matter how you look at it, you get into the atmosphere and the people around you.
- Friendship with the team.
- Excellent language practice that brings you to the level of a native speaker.
- Achieving an optimal work-life balance, the ability to work and rest at the same time.
- Convenient schedule.
If we consider the disadvantages, the work does not exclude unpleasant situations, for example, possible rudeness. But these are common cases that can happen literally at any workplace. You will also need to restructure and make adjustments to the schedule in order to devote time to evening and night shifts. With the right schedule and selection of shifts, this does not cause difficulties.
Is a hostess related to an escort?
No, these are completely different things. A hostess is an employee of an establishment who performs the duties of an administrator. During my work, there have never been such cases when a hostess or girls from consumption provided such services. I recommend working with trusted agencies to avoid getting into escort. Unfortunately, such situations happen, therefore, in order to avoid fraud and deception, it is better to work with experts in the employment niche, carefully study the contract, ask questions of interest.
How do your loved ones feel about your work abroad now?
My parents don't have any questions. Besides, I regularly help my family financially. By the way, there are no problems with my boyfriend either. He knows perfectly well what I do and sometimes even comes to the club when I'm on shift.
How long have you been working as a hostess and do you plan to change your activity?
I have been working for more than three years. During this time, I managed to start my own business, which I am now actively developing. For now, I do not plan to quit my job, since I have several unfulfilled financial goals. But in the future, I hope that my business will be able to fully meet my needs. Plus, I love what I do. I do not like everyday life, and my work gives me the opportunity to remain involved in the unique party life. I get a lot of impressions, make acquaintances, realize myself as a manager. When you have to control
work as a waiter, hookah man – you become a multitasker. It helps in life. It seems to me that there are no situations that I could not solve on my own.
What advice would you give to girls who are planning to work as hostesses abroad?
Firstly, do not look for a job on your own, there is plenty of fraud on the Internet. It is better to trust agencies with a good reputation. This way you can guarantee your safety and get support at all stages. Secondly, do not forget that you are going to work, not to have fun. The hostess is the face of the establishment. If you do not give it your all, you will quickly find a replacement. Your earnings are entirely in your hands. Thirdly, try to benefit from any situation and look at the world from a different angle. Even difficult days and unpleasant clients are points of growth and self-improvement. Fourthly, take care of yourself and do not forget about your health. No matter how it may sound, your appearance is your business card. Believe me, fit girls with a wide smile, healthy skin and hair receive much more compliments and tips than others. By the way, this is why girls from the CIS are so competitive in the market. And do not forget that the popularity of the vacancy is high, so always become better. Your income is an indicator of how well you approach your business and work in general.
Is there anything you would like to change about your story?
Of course, it doesn't happen that way, but I would probably like to. I would have left even earlier. It's just that what was and what is now are incomparable. A completely new level of income, full realization, dreams come true. But at the same time, it's a responsible job, new goals, hard work. If someone wants to try themselves in this after reading the interview, I will be only glad. But please, choose the agency and manager carefully to ensure yourself a good job with a high salary.
