Good news! EU borders are likely to open for tourists soon!
According to the EU Council recommendation, from 1 February 2022, the vaccination status, testing or certificate of recovery of a traveller from COVID-19, confirmed by an EU digital certificate, should become the key determining factor for the right of entry (rather than the country of departure).
The innovation concerns not only EU residents, but also tourists from third countries.
We will see what rules for crossing borders each EU country will introduce. All we can do is wait. We believe that the Council's recommendation, although not a legally binding document or order, will be heeded by the authorities of the EU member states and will implement the contents of the recommendation.
This document has brought the possibility of travel for tourists from third countries closer than ever before. Tourists without a European vaccine to obtain an EU certificatemust provide a negative PCR test result taken no earlier than 72 hours before travel or an antigen test taken no earlier than 24 hours before.
